Welcome back! I hope you had sufficient rest and spent quality time with your beloved families during the summer. Today marks the beginning of another challenging but fruitful school year.

Paying attention to small discoveries during a trip is a habit of mine, and it often provides me with deep personal reflections. I would like to share a quote I found on a hotel room mirror this summer.

If you know how to drive, you will certainly understand the message this quote conveys—you cannot just keep watching the rearview mirror without looking at the windscreen, or you will crash head-on instantly.

Inspired by Leo, I would like to add my own thought:

When you drive without glancing at the rearview mirror, you will certainly crash as well. You would not pass a driving test as well if you always keep your eyes off the rearview mirror. When driving, 95% of our time should be spent looking straight ahead through the windscreen. Yet for the remaining 5% of time, usually during critical moments like changing lanes, parking, or overtaking a vehicle ahead, we ought to look at the rearview mirror. We have to strike a balance.

The opening ceremony is our turning point towards the commencement of a new school year. Some of us may have had a very successful school life last year, yet it may not be the case for all of us. If we just keep our eyes on our past success or failure, we cannot move forward given that our world changes rapidly, and so does our study life. Yet we have to reflect on why and how we succeeded or failed, and learn from these past experiences, so that they become our fuel to move forward in the new school year!

During the summer vacation, we sent three F.4 students to Tauhara College, our sister school in New Zealand, to begin their 5-month life as exchange students. They are the first batch of exchange students we have sent out since our establishment in 1968. I travelled to visit them on 4th August and they have all adapted and are enjoying their new school life. During the first two weeks of August, we also sent three members of our Air Rifle Team to Chengdu to join a special training there. I hope they have a wonderful time there as well, and I believe that they must have made great improvement under the supervision of their coach at the National Team level.

Looking forward, you can soon access our two new campus facilities---the AI Corner and the Snooker Centre. Through the AI Corner, we extend our campus culture of "Learning anytime and anywhere". You can gain new knowledge through dialoguing with our new AI teacher and enhance your physical health through our new AI Sports Device. The new Snooker Centre provides us a new opportunity to develop another emerging sport on our campus beyond the traditional ones.

"Dream a dream, Walk a Dream" - you may find that the school has provided a number of new learning opportunities for you to dream your dream when you try to look in the rearview mirror. More importantly, to walk a dream---you have to step forward. I urge all of you to grasp every learning opportunity provided to you on campus to explore your dreams and keep moving forward to accomplish them.
